masck

note
i'm not sure how else to explain what a mask is besides a form that separates the inside and the outside, the back and front, the behind and the forward--it's a gate that might be touchable (skin/face/hair/color) or untouchable (voice/sounds/actions/identity). The point of masck is a real-time manipulation of these things, challenging how and why the gate is there in the first place: our assumptions and biases. The physical manipulation is clear: I wore a metallic structure on my face to work as a beard, covering portions of my face. Does this make me appear more powerful, or weak? Do I attract people or repulse them? Does it represent freedom, or the opposite? Am I free when I wear my chains?
On the other hand, the untouchables manipulation here are my voice and actions. By touching my masck, I triggered a higher and lower voice, asking the same questions: Does this sound make me appear more powerful, or weak? Do I attract people or repulse people? Does it represent freedom, or the opposite? Am I free when I wear my chains: the past, who I am and my identity?
